Learning to read online is fast becoming the norm in an age where the internet provides an almost limitless range of literacy games, reading material and other learning resources to help children learn to read. While reading real books will never be completely replaced, there are now entire ebooks available online, including those featured in ABC Reading Eggs and ABC Reading Eggspress.
ABC Reading Eggs features a range of ebooks that help children put to into practice the literacy skills they learn in the ABC Reading Eggs lessons, including the skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. From lesson 9, children read a full ebook at the end of each lesson. These ebooks include alphabet, story and non-fiction titles. By reading these ebooks, children learn that the ultimate goal of reading is to read real books for meaning.
In addition to its range of comprehension, spelling, vocabulary and grammar lessons, ABC Reading Eggspress includes a library of over 3000 ebooks which are also accessible on the iPad. This library includes illustrated chapter books, full colour non-fiction books and a range of classics. Each book includes a 10 questions quiz that tests comprehension, with children earning exciting rewards for correct answers.
